A Chat with 'Night Owl' Sax Great Stacy Dillard

'Curiosity' informs his life and his music, listen up and you can hear it

When I approached amazing saxophonist Stacy Dillard after a show at Bar Bayeaux months back, we began to reminisce about the early 2000s music scene in New York, the wild music that went into the wee hours, most especially we spoke of the old Nublu on Avenue C, (not to be confused with the NEW Nublu on Avenue C.)  So many memories of leaving that place just hours before needing to wake my kids up for school...

The conversation led me down a road of looking into the whole "Night Owl" personality, which led to hilariously divergent "data" showing in one study how us late-nighters have higher intelligence and creativity AND in another very possibly shorter lifespans (more because of the drinking and smoking and sleeplessness that often accompanies it rather than to anything biological of course.)

I invited Stacy to come have a chat with me  -- in the light of day -- to talk about the New York Jazz Scene of old, and, mostly,  what interested him in the saxophone, how he came to be such an incredible musician on the scene, and how he made his way to this fair city, the hotbed of music in the world (albeit a bit earlier these days.) He kindly obliged, and here he is, Mr. Stacy Dillard, in a fun conversation at my kitchen table, which I greatly appreciate. ListenUp, as he has great stories and many pearls of wisdom.
